i'm teaching preschool summer school in july and i'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for read-alouds. i'm doing a summer/beach theme. the classroom has a few, but not many that fit my theme. i have a handful of books, and i've requested some from the library (they're currently checked out). this is what i've got so far:

a home for hermit crab
down by the cool of the pool
one fish, two fish...
sun bread
into the a, b sea
summer story
summer: an aphabet acrostic

any favorites or must-reads? a couple of board books would be great, too. :)

I used to work at the New England Aquarium and we often noted the lack of good kids books on beaches and things but I do like Homer the Beach Comber (I can't remember the author) and Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle.

hmmm... well, these are second grade reading level but they have the right theme:

The Berenstain Bears by the Sea by Stan and Jan Berenstain

Down by the Cool of the Pool by Tony Mitton

Froggy Learns to Swim by Jonathan London

The Missing Beach Ball by Norman Bridwell

Henry and Mudge and the Forever Sea by Cynthia Rylant

Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister

I wish I could remember what I used to read when I was teaching preschool but that was about 7 years ago now and for the life of me, I can't remember.
